30th Anniversary Concert on Saturday 21st October

A quick reminder that our 30th Anniversary Concert is this Saturday.  The Melodians have been rehearsing hard and are now looking forward to seeing all their supporters and giving a fantastic performance.

A quick reminder from last year’s annual concert with a performance of the Michael Jackson tune Billie Jean:

30th Anniversary Concert is in 2 weeks time

We are rehearsing hard at the moment for our 30th Anniversary Concert on 21st October. We will be celebrating with our friends, families and supporters at our base in Henry Cavendish School in Balham. Our annual concert is usually in December and just to remind you of last year’s concert here is one of the favourites from that evening.

April Spring Friendship Festival in Pyongyang, North Korea 2004

Among our A to Z of countries visited, the most unusual country is probably North Korea.  In 2004, a small group of 6 were invited to perform at the April Spring Friendship Festival in Pyongyang.  This is a video of the Melodians performance at the concert and includes ‘Song of Dear Home’ composed by The Great Leader learnt especially for the event, followed by Danny Boy and Tropical Monsoon composed for the Melodians by the late Mikey Andrews.

Memory 2 from Visit to Kazakhstan in 2000

Continuing our series of interesting visits over the past 30 years – in 2000 the Melodians UK visited Kazakhstan and played on National TV.  This is a video of the programme with the slightly unusual presenters (notice the woman asleep on the bed behind them!).

Today at the Royal Academy of Arts in Piccadilly

The Melodians played today at the Royal Academy of Arts in Piccadilly for their annual Celebration of Summer Exhibition.

Received a lovely thank you from the organisers:

“Huge thanks to you and the band for playing at the Non-Members Varnishing Day today.

You played absolutely beautifully and everyone enjoyed your fabulous repertoire. We really appreciate you coming all the way into central London and hope you enjoyed the event too.”

Many thanks again.
