Just to let everyone know that the Making Music Awards were announced on the 8th September in an on-line event via Zoom. We had submitted entries for 2 of the Awards – Best Music Creator and Best Photo Capturing the Spirit of a Leisure-time Music Group.
We had been advised that Errol Lewis had a Special Mention for Señor Panman in the Best Music Creator category but was not in the final 3 so had not won the award. However, the photograph we submitted was taken at the Family Commonwealth Day at Westminster Abbey and was in the final 3 so we were feeling hopeful.
However, all 3 photos that were in the final were fantastic and unfortunately we did not win the award. They did mention how much they liked our photograph though.
We are also planning on having our Annual Award Concert on Saturday 12th December this year. This will take extra planning to ensure that everyone is safe and socially distanced. We will give more details closer to the time.
The Melodians Christmas Concert went very well and we were particularly happy that the Trinidad High Commissioner, Orville London came to the event. After the performance he gave a speech and also presented the prizes to this year’s winners.
The London Fashion Week – Isa Arfen Show this week was fantastic, the designs were great and the response from the audience was tremendous. Here is a small section of the event which shows part of the Cat Walk with the Melodians clearly seen playing at the back of the hall. A great experience for the Melodians. No logos were allowed.
HM The Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebrations are in full flow this weekend. Loads of street parties taking place and especially one on the Mall tomorrow – The Patron’s Lunch! http://www.thepatronslunch.com/event_info
BBC1 will be showing the event live between 1.15 and 4.15 pm. The Melodians are due to play between 1.45 and 2.20 pm at Admiralty Arch so hopefully we will be on BBC1 tomorrow afternoon.
The Melodians were all saddened to hear of the death of David Bowie after an 18 month battle with cancer. He was a great talent and will be sorely missed.
The Melodians recorded a video playing one of his most famous songs ‘The Man Who Sold The World’ at the British Council in 2013. They also recorded the music at Abbey Road Studios in March 2013 as part of the soundtrack for the ‘English Magic’ video created by Jeremy Deller.
If you would like to listen to the unusual sound of a Steel Orchestra playing David Bowie then here is the link:
The Melodians helped to create the Cancer Research UK Night to Remember in Painshill Park, Surrey yesterday 21st November. A great evening with the Melodians adding their special touch of fantastic music.
