Lovely Thank You Note from Royal Academy of Arts

We received a lovely thank you note from the Royal Academy of Arts for playing at their Celebration of Summer Exhibition in Piccadilly:

“Huge thanks to you and the band for playing at the Non-Members Varnishing Day today.

You played absolutely beautifully and everyone enjoyed your fabulous repertoire. We really appreciate you coming all the way into central London and hope you enjoyed the event too.

Many thanks again.”

You can also hear a ‘very brief’ snatch of our playing at the opening of the event on the BBC World Service programme:

Steelpan Experience Cancelled

We are very sorry to advise you that we have had to cancel the Steelpan Experience Day planned for 18th November.  We are hoping to be able to organise another similar event next year instead.

SteelPan Experience Event for UK Parliament Week Festival

The Melodians Steel Orchestra has been invited to take part in the UK Parliament Week Festival 2017 .   The Week runs from 13th to 19th November and the Melodians will be running a SteelPan Experience Event on Saturday 18th November at their base in Henry Cavendish School in Balham.

As part of the event you will be able to learn about the history of Steel Pan and try your hand at it with help and guidance from the Melodians themselves.  It will be a fantastic day and a great opportunity to listen to the Melodians and learn how they create their fantastic music.

Wonderful Christmas Concert on Saturday 10th December

It was a fantastic evening on Saturday 10th December and enjoyed by all the guests.  The School Steel Pan Club opened the event with ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ followed by the Melodians with 9 of their favourite pieces.

Featured pieces by the Melodians included ‘Thinking Out Loud’ composed by Ed Sheeran and arranged by Robert London.  This was performed at Robert and Joanna’s wedding earlier this year.

There was also a great reception to ‘All My Life’ composed by KC & Jo.  This was arranged by Azaria and was given a wonderful round of applause by the audience.

After the concert there were speeches by Mike Fuller, Alexandra Hardy – the Head Teacher, and the Mayor who then went on to present the awards.

The awards were:
